A decent, but not seller, Arco reproduction : ORE International 6935 Arch Floor Lamp
Pros --
1. The lamp looks really nice and has the same graceful curve of a traditional Arco. The outer metallic finish on the stem is very well done and looks great. I get numerous compliments on the lamp.
2. The shroud is made of two pieces which allows the light to be slightly angled to a desired direction -- emphasis on SLIGHTLY. That being said, this gives just enough of a fine tuning that it is a welcome design.
3. The marble on the base is a nice bright white Carrera - that means it is WHITE and not Egg Shell or Cream or whatever (at least it was for mine).
Meh --
3. I am fairly short (thanks genetics!), but some of my taller friends walk into the lamp end. I am not sure whether this is an indictment of the lamp quality or the quality of my friends (shrug). So because lamps are not sentient to my knowledge, I am not going to count this as a con, but as a "meh."
Cons -
1. The Arco had a giant block of marble that weighs 100++ pounds. That wasn't just for looks; the "big ole' block o' heavy" provided the stability for the arch. The base is heavy, but it's a few cheesesteaks shy of being heavy enough to provide the necessary stability when the light is fully extended. This causes the lamp to lean forward. However, it also means that this unit is easier to move without the risk of spending the day on the couch with a handful of muscle relaxers.
2. The arch is not very easy to adjust and requires some finesse and strength to retract or extend. Also, there is no indication when you are going to over extend the arch and cause the arch to turn into two pieces.
3. There was a manufacturing flaw on the inside of the shroud. The interior of the shroud pieces is a solid power coat with several perforations which shoot some of the light upwards. Around one of the perforations the metal and powder coat had "bubbled" like there was some oxidation being covered up. It is not readily visible but gives me concern about the long term quality of the lamp.
Bottom Line -
I do not regret my purchase, but I would not buy this particular model again. I would look at some of the other Arco knockoffs with the traditional base.
